About Me and My World

Live – Love – Laugh.

It’s an overused term but I still like it.

I live a full life.  I love what I do and who I do it with.  I love to laugh.  It is good for the soul.

I had a good start in life and hope to finish well.

I was raised on a farm near a small town named Delphos, Kansas.  It is middle America at its best.  It did not have stop lights but life was slow enough we didn’t need any.  I am the youngest of three girls.  On a farm, that’s not the best ratio of girls to boys, so my mom taught us to be proper ladies and my dad taught us to work like men.  It’s a good combination that has served me well.

I am the wife of a hard working, horse loving man named Larry.  He is full of knowledge and straight-up wisdom.  He always has my back and supports me in all my crazy adventures.  He is also a strong man of God who I love dearly.  Together we run a boarding facility near Thompsons Station, TN.  Our farm is our home and our mission field.  It is what makes our hearts beat.

We have three grown children – Laura, Natalie and Adam.  We are proud to watch them make a difference in the world around them.  We currently have one granddaughter, Lexi, who also loves to ride.  She is bright, beautiful and full of life.

My all consuming passion since birth has been horses.  I love the smell of them.  I love their personalities.  I love the freedom you feel when you ride.  They are true gifts from God.  They aren’t my whole life but they make my life whole.  I enjoy “horse-hair therapy” as often as possible.  A quiet barn at night with horses munching hay brings a peace to my soul; while a barrel racing run on a fire-breathing dragon makes me feel more alive than anything else in the world.

In the Bible, there are many passages about horses being ridden in the heavenly realms, usually into battle.  I know the reason Jesus rides horses versus, say, camels.  There is nothing more majestic nor regal than a fiery horse!

The moral of my life story, and the lessons that I have learned through my horses, is this … No matter the trail we have chosen nor the circumstances we have encountered, God loves us unconditionally.  He designed each of us with unique abilities and passions that we are to share with the world.  Mine is horses.

Second Wind Farm

- The place that I call home

Second Wind Farm is both a location on a map and a location in my heart.

It is nestled in middle America, deep in the heart of Tennessee.  Tennessee is the “Volunteer” state where people still smile at you in the grocery store and wave you into traffic.

Second Wind Farm is a boarding facility we started when a job I had for fifteen years ended.  It was the perfect opportunity to slow down and bring work home.  We renovated a majestic, ridiculously sturdy tobacco barn and started a business that turned into a mission.

Second Wind Farm is the perfect name for our piece of heaven.  Both Larry and I use this term frequently because it is the description of our lives.  Your “second wind” is what you get when you are completely spent, but then, after a period of rest, go at it again.  Your second wind is stronger than your first and can take you further than you imagined.  It definitely has in our case.
